MSc thesis project proposal

Optimization of a plasma etching machine for failure analysis of semiconductors

Project outside the university

Jiaco Instruments

JIACO Instruments is a one-of-a-kind: A highly successful startup in the semiconductor industry. The company was founded in 2014 as a spin-off from Delft University of Technology. With its unique and patented technology, its decapsulation tool to allow for failure analysis in IC packages has become the industry standard. The tool is in use by almost all of the top ten global leaders in the IC industry.  www.jiaco-instruments.com

Assignment

The student will carry out R&D activities in improving the performance of the Microwave Induced Plasma (MIP) machine. Your task will include:

  • Develop plasma etching test setup
  • Design and conduct experiments on optimizing the plasma etching rate, etching area and etching selectivity of the MIP machine
  • Design and conduct experiments to study the fundamentals of the relevant plasma etching
  • The R&D lab of JIACO Instruments is located in the Else Kooi Lab in the EEMCS building of TU Delft, where also most experiments will be carried out.

What we offer:

  • A unique learning environment to build your resume
  • A mixed business and research environment with direct exposure to the global microelectronics industry
  • Job opportunity after graduation
  • Allowance provided by the company

Requirements

JIACO Instruments is looking for a master student with a broad technical interest in microelectronics, physics, chemistry or mechanical engineering. You are eager to get results by combining hands-on experiments with new technical insights.
